I emailed him a general kinda email and he said, "Post it on the board, damn you!"

So here's a slightly revised version of said email...

+++

Well, I've skimmed a bit over the site, actually while I was listening to a friend's webcast rayjoe show.

I gotta say that a couple pieces really got me interested in buying more music that'll go on my 'in' pile and take me forever to give a listen, thanks a lump.

What I really liked was your man on a tightrope act of appreciating Joanna Newsom without just coming right out and saying she's the Nora Jones of quirk. Yeah, talented. Yeah, a visionary of sorts, but come on. I mean it's not like I don't like wacky female vocal styles, Meredith Monk sent me down that road a zillion years ago, I done my time, but I dunno...I'm kinda with you on the contrarian thing, Bob, I am instinctively suspicious of mass popularity, I smelled a rat here when I heard a glowing review of 'Ys' on NPR, not that there's anything wrong with that. Admittedly, I haven't heard a lot of Ms. Newsom's work; but, you know, I got the drift of it. What's undeniable about her music is that it's the work of someone who has successfully created her own musical planet, she's not a gimmick, I'm just not sure if I want to spend a lot of time on planet Joanna. If I come to love her it certainly wouldn't be the first time I flipped in my feelings towards someones music, that said I'll probably 'get' this record/her around the time I get around to seeing Dances With Wolves.Osama Pajamahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04897299250183612250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38474413.post-1170474951916910512007-02-02T22:55:00.000-05:002007-02-02T22:55:00.000-05:00Here's something that came in from someone too shy...Here's something that came in from someone too shy to post:

I gotta say that a couple pieces really got me interested in buying more music that'll go on my 'in' pile and take me forever to give some time, thanks a lump.

What I really liked was your man on a tightrope act of appreciating Joanna Newsom without just coming right out and saying she's the Nora Jones of quirk.
